Ty's first visit to the park!

Last Sunday, Tony and I took Ty to the park for the first time. He had a blast in the swing! Tony "hung" him on the monkey bars and let go! Ahhh! Mama was scared, but he had his hands right by him. Ty actually hang on for about 5 seconds. More than what I can do! He wasn't too sure when we went down the slide. I think he had fun, we sure did!

What Ty has taught me

Yes, this is a picture (terrible quality cell phone pic :) Of an empty curtain rod. To us "adults', this little brown decorative piece on the curtain rod is just that, a piece that matches my furniture...but to Ty it is fascinating.

You see, Ty is so entranced by shadows, cabinets, molding, light fixtures, and this morning? The curtain rod. All along, I knew it was age appropriate and took delight in his amusement. But this morning...I decided to see what he saw.

He saw the beautiful reflection of the morning sun.  The gorgeous deep mahogany and black swirls used to create the color. He saw the intricate detail of the carvings. He saw...beauty, where I only saw stuff.

Why write this post, you say? When did we as adults forget to look and take in the beauty and magic around us? When did we lose our innocence and appreciation? When did we lose our simplicity? When did we get so busy with our everyday lives to just stop and be silent?

Our God is an amazing God. Sometimes I take Him for granted. I know Him, I love Him, and I place everything I have in Him. He has given us so much to love. Even down to that pesky little stink bug. That stink bug is God's creation, too. :)

Thank you, sweet Ty, for reminding me how beautiful our God is and for bringing me back down and humbling me. Thank you, dear Lord, for using Ty as a vessel to remind me how wonderful YOU are. It's time for some "Crazy Love".

We spent awhile gazing at this beautiful curtain rod together, all the while, praising God. <3 Won't you take a moment today to notice that bird on the branch, or the blade of grass blowing in the wind. Notice the way to sun reflects off the hood of your car. Take a moment to thank God, truly thank Him. <3

2 months old

I can not believe Ty is already 2 months old! Time has surely flown by. We have learned so much together, climbed a few hills and fallen down a few times. But we are learning. <3 He began getting extremely fussy in the evenings. I cut way back on my dairy consumption and that seems to have helped.

Weight & length:  at his doctor's appointment on the 12th: 11.9 pounds (34%)  and 22 3/4 in long (37%) Head circumference is still in the 89% :)

Sleeping: He woke up every 2-3 hours to eat until I began swaddling him a week ago.  He will go 1 4-5 hour stretch before midnight, then 2-3 afterwards. Still wakes up to grunt and groan around 4-5. :)

Eating: I nurse on demand so the schedule is different every day. He is beginning to get on more of a schedule. He never goes less than 2 hours in the day and never more than 4.

Diapers: Size 1

Clothing: 0-3 and some 3 months.  Learned that Carter's 3M clothes are actually 0-3 size. Going and confusing me like that. Lol. Some 3 months are still too big.

Hair: Dark brown. I think he has lost all he is going to lose. I love his little receding hairline. :)

Eyes: Navy blue but turning brown

Personality:  All smiles in the morning! Over all he is a happy baby. He gets fussy in the evening but that is common in this stage. Loves his playmat. He loves to stare at shadows, curtain rods, door knobs, pretty much anything. He is truly taking in the world around him.

Milestones: He is cackling and cooing so much! He can find mama and daddy in a room when we talk. He is all smiles in the morning. Daddy hates to leave to go to work. :) He can hold his head up so well, I rarely have to assist him. He is trying to throw his leg over to roll over. He is starting to grasp at objects now rather than just bat at them all the time. He tries to talk to us! I love it!

Firsts: Lots of firsts this month! He took his first road trip to Danville! Missed it all because he slept the whole time! His first time in a restaurant (Lone Star) and his first dinner out (Los Nortenos). Mama left him for the first time with Nannie for about an hour. Hardest thing mama has done, but both managed to get through it scar free. :) He also got his first shots. :( I'm sure it was harder on mama than on him.

Ty's newborn pictures

Here are a few newborn pictures of my precious son. <3 Oh how my world changed when he was born! My puzzle is complete. Love has been redefined.

1 month old!

I can not believe a month has gone by. Time is sure flying when it comes to my little man. *insert sad face.  Here are his 1 month pictures. :)

Weight & length:  10.2 lbs and about 21 inches long

Sleeping: He wakes up about every 2-3 hours to eat. During his 3 week growth spurt it was more like every 45 min to an 1.5 hrs. Every morning about 4:00 he starts stretching and grunting.

Eating: I nurse on demand so the schedule is different every day. The first 2 weeks he cluster fed in the evening for about 4 hours.

Diapers: moved to size 1 on 12-29. Sad day for mommy.

Clothing: newborn size

Hair: Dark brown. He is starting to lose some of it.

Eyes: Navy blue

Milestones: He can lift his head very well during tummy time. His doctor said he has very strong legs and will be rolling over very quickly. :) Ty had his first real smile to daddy this week! Oh how precious. Daddy was so excited. He had his newborn pictures on the 22nd.

Firsts: Ty's umbilical cord fell of at exactly 10 days and he had his first "real" bath.  He loves bath time but dislikes getting lotioned up. He celebrated his first Christmas! A lot of his family came to visit him on Christmas day and he got to meet so many people that love him so very much. He got his first bicycle, the cutest Eeyore stuffed animal and an activity bar for his stroller. :) His first outing was to Nana and Papa Deal's house. <3

Stats:  Had his first Doctor's visit on 12-13. When he came home from the hospital, he weighed 6.13. At his 4 day doctor visit, he was 7.1 (38%) and they measured him at 19.5 in (58%). He was 20 in in the hospital. ;) His head circumference was at 64%.

His 2 week doctor's appointment was on 12-27. This was the first time I took him anywhere by myself. He was up to 8.12 lb and 20.5 in long. :) weight, length and head circumference were all in the 89-91%. Very proportionate. :)

Ty's birth story

It was a long day! Saturday December 9th started at 7:30 with a Walmart run.  I needed to cook for my husband’s work Christmas party that evening.  Our niece’s birthday party was also that day. So I had a busy day from the get go. J I believe that is why Ty decided he wanted to come early.

We got home from the Christmas party around midnight. Mind you, I am normally in bed by 10. Ha! At 3:00 am I got up for my normal potty run, and low and behold….I was one of the 15% of pregnant mamas whose water actually breaks and “gushes”.  At 3:08 I woke up hubby.  So much for a long restful night!

Looking tired. ;) Before leaving for the hospital. 38 weeks.

Tony took a shower and I put on my makeup.  Little did I know, this was the most makeup I would wear for days! Oh how I wanted to take a shower. I still smelled like the campfire we sat around that night and knew it would be several days before I would be able to take one. Oh well.  I grabbed our last minute things. I was so thankful for already having my bags packed!

We arrived at the hospital around 4 am. We took our normal route to L&D through the front door, up the stairs, through outpatient surgery…and the doors were locked.  Don’t they do outpatient surgery at 4am? So down the stairs, out the front door, up the outside stairs, through the emergency room waiting room and on the L&D. Now, there may have been a shorter way. But we didn’t know it. Plus the walking was great for dealing with the contractions. J

Once in L&D, I weighed…146.2 and the nurses commented on how calm we were. Nothing to be too worked up about except the fire hydrant leaking down my legs. We were excited, but peaceful.

They quickly put me in room number 4 (the same room one of Tony’s daughters was born in) They did the usual, hooked me up to the fetal monitor and contraction monitor. Upon arrival I was 1-2 cm dilated and 70% effaced. After checking my vitals, they put me in a blow up gown that was to warm my body up for an easier recovery. It was hot, I was sweating, I was in pain. But I was so excited!!! The nurses called my doctor and set the time for my c-section to be 8:00 but it was pushed to 9:00. Which ended up working because another OB had an emergency c-section to do at 8. Contractions started at 3 when my water broke, but were consistently getting stronger and more regular by this point. We called our parents around 6:45 and they were all there by 8.

They took me back to operation prep between 9:15-9:20. First thing was the spinal tap. This felt like a bee sting that didn’t stop. I jumped at the first “stick”. But the nurse holding my head down make it so much easier.

I started feeling my feet getting numb right away and they turned me around on the table. I could tell my right foot was turned in, pigeon toed style and it was absolutely driving me crazy that I couldn’t move it to straighten it! Ha!

They called my sweet husband into the operating room.  It was 9:42am.  I could feel everything that was being done to my, but it felt like it was being done to someone else and without pain.  The anesthesiologist was fabulous about explaining everything. She said when they pushed Ty out it would feel  like an elephant on my chest. It did. She said “do you know what it is?” When I said boy, she said “well, that’s what I saw first.” (since he came out hiney first due to being frank breech.)  J Tony was crying and pumped his fist. Happy daddy. You see, we had tried to check twice to “make sure” he was a boy and both times he would not cooperate.

He made his grand appearance at 9:46am, 4 minutes after beginning surgery.  His first cry was the best sound in the world, which I know all you mom’s reading this are saying yes, I knew that.

The next little bit was a little frustrating. They took Ty to the “table” and started their normal cleaning and apgar testing. But I couldn’t see him. I could hear them talking.  They were all talking about how beautiful he was and how rosy.  Tony was able to walk over there and take pictures and video. But I wanted to see my sweet boy! They were saying how beautiful he was. Well good day! I wanted to see!

His pediatrician, Dr. Noonan, brought him to me all wrapped up.  Only a mother can know how I felt at this moment, the first time our eyes met. The first time he heard my voice in the real world.  The saying goes, “I do believe in love at first sight, because I’m a mom” is so true. <3

They allowed me to talk to him for a minute before Tony took him to the nursery. When he arrived in the nursery “O Holy Night” was playing on the radio….His first song. <3 Thank you Nurse Helen, for letting me know this.

It took about 45 minutes to put me back together ;), (by the way, I was in labor for 6 hours and this 45 minutes seemed 10 times longer!) When they were done with me and opened the door to wheel me to the recovery room, I heard my husband’s voice saying “now I want my other baby” oh how I love him.  He was so nervous. Thank you, God for such a loving man.

The nurses brought Ty to me as soon as I went into recovery, before they gave him a bath, etc. so I may be able to nurse. He nursed like a champ.

My son’s birth, praise the Lord, was textbook and easy. Recovery was a little rough the first few days, but I healed quickly and painlessly. J December 9th, 2012 definitely was the best day of my life. My puzzle is ecomplete. <3 I love my family more than life itself and thank God that he would show favor on my and give me this precious miracle.

Welcome to the world, Ty!

Ty decided he did not want to wait until my scheduled c-section on December 17th to make his grand arrival. He, like his mama, wanted to be early.

Tyler Jay Deal made his grand appearance on Sunday December 9th, 2012 at 9:46 am.

Weighing 7 lb 3 oz and 20 inches long

We are so in love with this little boy.

Birth story coming soon. :)
